Kari Achatz | Photographer | ArtistKari Achatz is a practicing artist and visual arts teacher in Buffalo, New York. She graduated from Daemen College in 2007 with a BS in Art Education and a minor in painting. She earned an MS in Art Education from State University of New York College at Buffalo in 2011.
In her artwork, color has always come first with shape and form coming second. To her, color has a life of its own and comes alive on the canvas and photographs she creates. The carefully devised color palettes that influence her abstract works and urban wanderings come from interactions with places and objects which she has natural affinity. Cut. To make an opening or an incision with a sharp edged tool. To cut is to remove from something larger. Her cuts are obsessive, intuitive, meditative and repetitive; the ability to let the light in. She considers herself an artist who draws with the blade, and her cuts, create an intricate language sharing how she views the intricacies of the world. Kari has exhibited at The Burchfield Penney Art Center, CEPA Gallery, Czurles-Nelson Gallery, The Tower Gallery, The Lipsey Architecture Center, and The Albright Knox Education Gallery. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery has recently (2018), acquired two photo sculptures titled "Parsing Dreams" 2017, and "Urban Resurgence" 2018 for the permanent fine art collection. |
